SALT LAKE CITY — House Speaker Greg Hughes has been asked to submit information to President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, his office confirmed to FOX 13 on Monday.

The Draper Republican was asked to give them information about his past work in transportation. Hughes’ name has been floated for possible Transportation Secretary in the Trump White House. It comes after a conference last week where Hughes spoke and his name was repeatedly dropped as being under consideration.

Earlier this month, Hughes told FOX 13 he had not been contacted by the Trump transition team and was happy with his job as leader of the Republican supermajority in Utah’s House of Representatives.

“There are stories out there that say that could be a possibility but I have not been in touch,” he told FOX 13’s Bob Evans in a Nov. 10 interview, adding: “I love being Speaker of the House, we have a term coming in, I just won my reelection, we have a lot of colleagues and so I have a lot of work to do here, and that’s where my focus is.”

Despite the apparent interest from the Trump transition team, Hughes’ office said Monday that the House Speaker remains “perfectly happy with the job that he has.”
