WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A lasting memorial to fallen Officer Cody Brotherson now sits in the place where he was killed nearly two weeks ago.

Officer Brotherson died on November 6 after the suspect car in a high-speed chase hit him at 4100 South and 2200 West in West Valley City.

Those paying their respects placed flowers, cards and candles right next to a broken, knocked-over fire hydrant, and tied blue ribbons on a nearby fence.

Now, a permanent marker in that spot will forever serve as a reminder of the sacrifice Officer Brotherson made to keep thecommunity he grew up in safe.

A crew from the Granger-Hunter Improvement District replaced the hydrant on Thursday, and the new one is painted in a dark blue—a symbolic color for police.

Workers installed the metal numbers 8444, which is Officer Brotherson’s badge number, in the freshly poured concrete as a lasting tribute.
