BAGRAM, Afghanistan – Four Americans were killed and 17 other people injured Saturday in a suicide bomb attack at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, according to US Defense Secretary, Ash Carter.

Carter says two of those killed were service members and two were contractors, adding that he was “deeply saddened” by the news.

The explosion at the largest US military base in Afghanistan also wounded 16 other US service members and a Polish soldier who was participating in the NATO mission.

According to the statement by Secretary Ash, a person triggered a suicide vest as people gathered for a run.

The statement contradicts an earlier report from the district governor of Bagram who said all of the victims were Afghan nationals.
