SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah -- Hillary Clinton accomplished something Barack Obama never did in Utah.

She outperformed her Republican rival in Salt Lake County.

Clinton received 45 percent of Salt Lake County’s votes, compared with Republican Donald Trump’s 32 percent. Independent Evan McMullin gained most of the rest with 17 percent.

Much smaller Summit County also went for the former Secretary of State.

That means nothing in terms of election outcomes, but it shows the increasing political divide between Salt Lakers, and residents of Utah’s other counties – 54 percent and 38 percent respectively.

That suggests something that was evident in other counties: Republicans fled Trump in Utah more than in any other state.

In Utah County, Donald Trump won a slight majority of votes: 51 percent. Every other Republican Candidate in Utah County got 75 percent of the vote or more.
