TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- It's been one year since 14-year-old Victoria Hillman was hit and killed by a car while trick-or-treating in Taylorsville. On Monday, the community put their Halloween festivities on hold to remember her.

"It doesn't even feel like a year. I haven't even processed it. I can't even believe it. My best friends gone," said Heidi Nunley, Victoria’s close friend.

With the bright flame of candles in hand, dozens of friends and classmates remembered Victoria at a vigil Monday night.

"I miss everything about her," said Austin Graziano, Victoria’s close friend.

Friends recall the night they got the news about their friend's death.

"I couldn't believe it my mom had to drive me to the scene to prove it was real and i thought no,” said Whitney Cleveland, Victoria’s close friend. "It happened quicker than any of us could ever realize."

This year friends started their first year of high school without Victoria.

"It's been really hard. I wish she was with me in class and there to go to lunch with me and be there to talk about the day and be my best friend," Cleveland said.

Victoria's friends have this message for drivers.

"I wish other people would drive safer and realize what you're doing and that there's children slow down," Cleveland said.

Victoria's family has fought to make crosswalks in this area safer. In the past year the city installed these lights at the crosswalk on 2700 West.

On Halloween crossing guards were out helping trick-or-treaters across the road.
