Toddler dies after being hit by car in WVC neighborhood

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A toddler is dead after being hit by car in a West Valley City neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 5 p.m. in the area of the 2700 South block of 2855 West. The 19-month-old, identified as Grayson Gravin, was hit by a person backing out of a nearby driveway, who didn't see the child in the roadway, according to tweets from West Valley City police.

The toddler was taken was taken to Jordan Valley Medical Center in extremely critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to tweets from West Valley City police, the toddler's mother came home with her child in the car. As she was taking groceries inside, the boy unbuckled from his seat and got out of the vehicle.

The driver who hit Grayson is cooperating in the investigation.
