DAVIS COUNTY, Utah -- In the space of several hours there were more than 10 car crashes on a stretch of I-15 that's under construction Saturday.

Southbound I-15 in Davis County has lane closures in effect near mile post 331, but because of the twists and turns in the road and a hill that obscures the view not all drivers were aware the lane was ending.

There were several crashes reported between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. After several crashes occurred, authorities moved signs and barricades back about an extra 2,000 feet, or about three times farther than normal, to give drivers more room to make the transition.

No major injuries were reported, but the incidents kept the Utah Highway Patrol busy.

"We've got three troopers that have stayed there probably for the last five hours in one location in between Layton Parkway and Hillfield Road--there have been three troopers dedicated to doing nothing but traffic crashes," Sgt. Chamberlain Neff of the UHP said.

The single lane closure remains in effect through 5 p.m. Sunday, and at some point during that closure UDOT will be closing another lane. Drivers involved in the crashes can contact UDOT's Risk Management Division to file a claim.
