Meagan Saunders, who is a Patient Navigator, along with Angela Dumke, who is a breast cancer survivor, shared some tips for handling the mental stress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Patient navigators are in place to help individuals find what suits them best when it comes to providers, insurance, and personal preferences. The American Cancer Society runs a hotline that is available to cancer patients 24/7. They can call 1 (800) 227-2345 at any time of day or night and talk to a person that has training and understanding to help them. Some other programs and resources that can ease some other burdens include the patient driver program where individuals that need a ride to and from treatment can be picked up by a volunteer. (Apply to be a volunteer here) TheLook Good, Feel Better program is in place to provide education to women about the changes that their body will undergo during treatment and ways to make them feel better about themselves throughout the process. To support breast cancer research and awareness come to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.
