SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert appointed former Lt. Gov. Greg Bell to the Utah Transit Authority Board Wednesday after accepting the resignation of H. David Burton.

Gov. Herbert’s office stated Bell was sworn in during a UTA meeting Wednesday afternoon after Burton’s resignation.

Herbert states he has worked closely with Bell during his time in office, and he said he is appointing Bell for many of the same reasons he chose him as his first Lieutenant Governor:

“Greg is a known statesman. His interactions with others are always fair and marked by integrity. He is known to be a collaborative and deliberate problem solver; a leader who is able to bring together varying ideas and diverse opinions to find the best path for the residents of this great state.”

UTA spokesperson Remi Barron sent Fox 13 News a statement saying, a few months ago, when Burton was named the chairman of the University of Utah Board of Trustees, he announced that Governor Herbert would be replacing him.

“Burton has said that he would not have the time to effectively serve on both boards,” Barron said.

Bell resigned his position as Lt. Governor in 2013 to take a job as CEO of the Utah Hospital Association.
