SALT LAKE CITY — A pair of lawsuits filed against the Davis School District over sexual conduct involving a former high school teacher appear to be headed for trial.

In a new court filing, the Utah Attorney General’s Office (which is representing the school district) told a judge that the potential for settlement is “poor” and requested a trial be set in 2018.

The families of two teenage boys are suing the district and former Davis High School teacher Brianne Altice over sexual relationships she had with them. She pleaded guilty to forcible sex abuse, admitting to inappropriate contact with the boys. The victims’ families allege the Davis School District was negligent and should have done more to protect them from Altice.

FOX 13 typically does not name sex abuse victims, even though the young men are suing Altice and the district in federal court. The lawsuits had previously been filed in state court.

In her own filing from the Utah State Prison, Altice wrote that she had “no evil or malicious intent to cause harm.” In the case of one of the boys, she wrote, his grades improved in her class.

Altice is serving up to 30 years in prison. Her first parole hearing is scheduled for next year.
