HYRUM, Utah – A man in his 80s was taken to a hospital via helicopter Saturday after he fell from a horse in the Hardware Ranch area of Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

Lt. Brian Locke with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office says the man was riding in Blacksmith Fork Canyon when he fell off around 12:30 Saturday.

The man was in a group of 6-8 riders, who said he fell due to some sort of hardware malfunction on the saddle. The 87-year-old man was conscious at the scene but suffering from pain, so a LifeFlight helicopter was dispatched to extract him from the mountain.
