Family displaced after fire rips through attic space

DRAPER, Utah – A family is out of their home and staying with relatives after a fire broke out in their loft on Saturday morning.

Dispatchers were called to 12093 S. Alpine Trail Dr in Draper after reports of smoke from the homeowners around 12 a.m.

When  firefighters arrived they saw that the family of two had already evacuated themselves from the burning home.

Battalion Chief Scott McBride form Unified Fire Authority said they also had to evacuate residents on either side of the affected home as a precaution.

Mcbride said, “We’ve released residents on each side of the fire unit and they’re able to go back to their homes tonight”.

Crews say it took 25 minutes to get the fire under control.

Investigators estimate damages to be at $50,000 and the cause is still not known at this time.
