SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah -- A woman died Sunday after she fell an estimated 100 feet or more near Mount Olympus and Neffs Canyon.

Police later identified the deceased as 36-year-old Celeste Yang of Salt Lake City.

FOX 13 News first heard report of the incident around noon, and Lt. Lex Bell of the Unified Police Department said they were called by a man who was out hiking and possibly climbing with the woman in the Kamp's Ridge area prior to the fall.

The man was able to reach Yang after she fell an estimated 100 feet or more, and he found that she had died, possibly on impact. Search and rescue crews later reached Yang and confirmed she died as a result of the fall.

Lt. Bell said the woman was extremely experienced, in great shape and had the proper equipment. Unfortunately, he said the terrain appeared to prove too technical.

While they are unsure exactly how or why Yang fell, Lt. Bell said it appears her death is not suspicious but rather a tragic accident.

The man hiking with Yang identified himself as the woman's partner.
