SEVIER COUNTY, Utah — Authorities are investigating a case of animal cruelty in a central Utah town that resulted in the death of a dog.

A male Australian Shepherd-Kelpie mix was euthanized earlier this month after his owner discovered his pet suffered a fractured shoulder while tied to a tree in the back yard of a residence at 392 E. 100 South, according to a press release from Salina police.

According to a Facebook post by Salina Police, the injury occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 4 a.m. the next day. The dog’s owner noticed the animal was unable to walk and took him to the vet. X-rays revealed the nature of the dog’s injury.

“It is believed the dog was struck with a blunt object with enough force that one of his shoulder joints was seriously fractured,” the release states. “The dog was euthanized.”

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Salina police through dispatch at 435-896-6471.
