TOOELE, Utah - A fire that broke out at a Tooele city park Monday is suspicious, according to the Tooele City Fire Department.

The fire burned near 1000 N. and State Road 36 and came within 50 feet of nearby homes.

Due to a rash of fires in the area recently, 50 firefighters responded and quickly doused the fire.

Some residents prepared to evacuate. "Over here is a whirlwind because of the wind and all of that and the flames were getting high and I was getting scared," said resident Lisa Jorgensen.

Tooele Fire Chief Bucky Whitehouse said a number of juveniles were seen running from the park shortly after the fire started. Whitehouse said the juveniles might have started the fire, but isn't sure if it was set intentionally.
