SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities have identified a man found dead on North Temple after a suspected hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning.

At about 5:35 a.m.,  36-year-old Phillip Aguto, was crossing the street in the area of 1400 West and North Temple, when he was hit by a car, according to Salt Lake City police. He was wrapped in a blanket, there was poor lighting in the area and no crosswalk.

A motorist contacted police Saturday after reading about the accident on social media, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Derek Dimond.

Dimond said the driver thought he/she had hit debris in the road. The motorist who called is believed to be the second or third person to run over Aguto.

Dimond said no charges will be filed against the driver, however they are still looking for the first motorist who hit the victim.

Dimond said it is possible they hit him without knowing they struck a person.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Salt Lake City police at 801-799-3000.
