SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah -- Road construction has been an ongoing obstacle for drivers in Utah this summer, and more projects are getting underway.

For most of the summer it's primarily been folks on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley who have been impacted the most by UDOT construction.

But, starting Friday night and continuing for the next several months, the east side at I-215 and 6200 South is going to feel the pain of the construction zone.

I-215 will be down to one lane in each direction overnight Friday, then down to two lanes in each direction beginning Saturday and continuing until at least Thanksgiving.

"24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout November," said John Gleason, a UDOT spokesman.

Crews will be conducting what they call a hydro-demolition of the bridge at 6200 South. High-powered water guns, kind of like the one the dentist uses to clean your teeth, will take the top layer off of the bridge without impacting the pillars below.

"It's a high-powered water jet that takes off the top layer of the bridge deck there and allows us to be as precise as possible without damaging the bridge deck beneath," Gleason said.

Then the top will be resurfaced.

On top of that major area of construction, UDOT has several other projects that are ongoing, including along the west side belt of I-215.

Another project is on Bangerter Highway in the south end of the valley. UDOT says if you can avoid that area this weekend that would be a good idea.

There will also be issues on US-189 near Deer Creek Reservoir in Wasatch County.

"We could see some major delays starting this weekend, especially initially here as people are getting used to the construction on the east belt here, most of it has been happening on the west belt of 215, this weekend we're going to shift that up to the east side as well," Gleason said.
