LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah -- A young teenage couple had to be rescued off the mountain early Friday morning.
The 15- and 16-year-old went up the mountain in Little Cottonwood Canyon to see the Perseid meteor shower.
The teens weren't fully prepared for the trip back down the mountain and had to call 911 at about 3 a.m., police said.
The Unified Police Department and Search and Rescue crews responded to the scene and were able to locate the couple.
Authorities said the couple lost the trail and weren't fully prepared. UPD Sgt. Paul Barker said there was lack of preparedness with no food, water, flashlights or jackets.
The hikers were questioned and interviewed by police and sent home safely.
No injuries were reported.
