SALT LAKE CITY -- He made headlines earlier this week after announcing an effort to keep Donald Trump from becoming President, and Wednesday night Evan McMullin officially kicked off his campaign in Salt Lake City.
McMullin is a BYU graduate and a life-long conservative. He would need to gather 1,000 signatures to get on the ballot in Utah.
While he is late to the game, McMullin said he is proud to give voters an alternative.
"We have, I think in 24 hours, we had 60,000 volunteers sign up around the country, I have no idea where it is now, maybe double that,” McMullin said. “Google called me and told me more people are searching for my name than the Donald's.”
