ST. GEORGE, Utah — A boy with autism who was in critical condition after he was found at the bottom of a pool at a motel in St. George Monday died at a hospital Tuesday night.

Officers responded to Coronada Inn and Suites shortly after 7:30 a.m. on a report of a missing boy.

“The initial information was that a 7-year-old male who is nonverbal left the family’s hotel room,” St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley told St. George News. “Officers were notified that he likes water, so they immediately began checking pools and splash pads near the area.”

An officer found the boy, Aiden, at the bottom of the outdoor pool at Sands Motel,  which is next door to Coronada Inn and Suites, at about 7:41 a.m.

The boy was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center and then to Primary Children’s Hospital. Aiden died Tuesday night at Primary Children’s, St. George Police confirmed Wednesday.

AGoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with Aiden’s medical and funeral costs.
