DRAPER, Utah — A man who was wanted in connection with an aggravated assault is now in custody after he sought medical attention for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sgt. Chad Carpenter of the Draper Police Department said 30-year-old Eddie Heuser was involved in an alleged aggravated assault on Saturday and had barricaded himself in a home. The man was able to flee the area as police worked on obtaining an arrest warrant, and he had evaded police for the rest of the week.

Friday around 6 p.m., police were notified that Heuser had shot himself in the hand while at home with his girlfriend. The pair left the residence and police set up a containment in the area, which is near 12300 South.

Police notified nearby hospitals about the incident, and staff at Lone Peak Hospital later called to report they had received a patient with a gunshot wound.

As officers responded to the hospital they observed Heuser fleeing the area on foot. Police searched the area with the assistance of K9 units and ultimately located and arrested Heuser. Heuser had left the gun used in the shooting at his residence.

Police said Heuser will be booked into jail after he is treated for the gunshot wound.
