PANACA, Nev. -- Everyone knows everyone in the small rural town of Panaca, Nevada. So, when two bombs went off Wednesday night, everyone started talking.
Now that some of the dust has settled, Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee confirms that the man who set them off was 59-year-old Glenn Franklin Jones.
Danette Sanders and her husband Dennis say they knew Jones well.
"I really felt sorry for Glenn because he's such a good guy, and he had moved here from Las Vegas," Sanders said. "He had lost his wife, then he lost his mother, then he lost his job."
Sheriff Lee says Jones worked as a nurse at a local hospital with Joshua and Tiffany Cluff, who owned the home where Jones planted one of the bombs.
Cherrie Whitney says everyone in this small town knows the Cluffs.
"They're both registered nurses, the mom and the dad," Whitney said. "They have three girls. Everybody knows them. They're great people."
The Sheriff confirms that Tiffany Cluff and two of her daughters were home moments before the bombs went off.
"Glenn was in the backyard trying to light the bomb, and Tiffany came home and her kids were in the house and he said, 'I'm going to die today. I'm going to blow the house up. If you want to live, go,'" Sanders said.
Sheriff Lee says Tiffany Cluff and her two daughters ran out of the house barefoot, barely escaping the blast.
"Lots of people were walking around with their kids and a bomb went off, and nobody was hurt except for him: It's a miracle," Whitney said.
The Clark County Coroner says Jones shot himself in the head after detonating the bombs. His death has been ruled a suicide. FOX 13 News does not generally report on acts of suicide unless there is a larger impact to the public, such as in the case of bombs being detonated.
