BLUFFDALE, Utah -- A 7-year-old girl was killed after she was struck by an SUV in Bluffdale Saturday afternoon.

Sgt. Jeremy Wright of the Saratoga Springs Police Department said the 7-year-old girl was hit by an SUV pulling a trailer in the area of 14000 South and 4000 West around 12:40 p.m.

The girl was later identified as Tacie Sorensen.

Wright could not immediately provide any specific details about the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Authorities at the scene said at this point it appears the case is a tragic accident, and they don't believe impairment or excessive speed were factors in the crash.

The driver, a 62-year-old man from Midvale, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

"It's summertime, kids are out, we need to be cognizant of what we're doing as drivers," Wright said. "You know, be more vigilant, especially in neighborhoods, paying attention to kids running out in the street, riding their bikes. They don't necessarily pay attention to us; we need to pay attention to them."
