ST. GEORGE, Utah — St. George police arrested a 14-year-old boy connected to an alleged sexual assault at a public pool Thursday evening.

Authorities were called to Sand Hollow Aquatic Center, 1144 N. Lava Flow Drive, just after 6 p.m. The assault occurred in a family changing room, said Capt. Mike Giles with St. George police.

The victim did not know the suspect. Indications suggest the two had met at the pool a short time before the incident took place, according to a press release from the police department.

Detectives worked late into the night and throughout the day Friday on the case, the release states. At about 5:30 p.m. Friday, the 14-year-old suspect was contacted and interviewed by detectives.

Evidence and probable cause was established to arrest the teen on charges of two counts of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of rape of a child, the release states. There may be additional charges or these charges may be amended during the legal process.

Police stated the teen was the only perpetrator in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
