SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — Emergency responders were dispatched to an apartment complex in South Salt Lake after a 3-year-old child was under water in a pool for up to five minutes Sunday.

Deputy Chief Terry Addison with South Salt Lake Fire Department said they responded to the Meadowbrook Apartments, 820 West Timbercreek Way, around 6:30 p.m. on report of a possible drowning.

When they arrived they found an unresponsive 3-year-old who had been under water. Parents had already begun CPR, and the child was taken to a hospital.

By the time the child reached the hospital, they were breathing and crying. Addison said the child appears to be in good condition and will be OK.

Addison said there weren’t sure exactly how long the child was under the water, due to a language barrier between responders and the family. He said they believe the child was in the water for 1 to 5 minutes.
