(CNN) — Former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz will speak at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, the Texas senator’s office announced Thursday, after the presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump asked him to.

“Mr. Trump asked Sen. Cruz to speak at the Republican convention, and Sen. Cruz said he would be happy to do so,” Cruz’s spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said in a statement.

The announcement followed a meeting of the two men with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus in Washington earlier Thursday.
