Police on the Utah-Arizona border arrested a Colorado City man on a felony sex offender registration violation, after authorities said he did not update his address.

Vergel Bryce Jessop, 56, was booked into a jail in Mesquite, Nev., on Tuesday night after he was contacted by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said he had not updated his address and had been living at a different residence for a number of months.

“Jessop advised that he recently traveled to Kingman and obtained his court documents.  Jessop said that he was under the impression that he no longer has to register as a sex offender.  Jessop was taken into custody without incident,” the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Jessop was among a number of members of the Fundamentalist LDS Church who were indicted in 2005 on charges related to underage marriages. He pleaded no contest to a child abuse charge and was sentenced to three years probation, but apparently ordered to register as a sex offender.
