ROY, Utah - Marilee Patricia Gardner, who police say was involved in a double fatal accident, was in court on Friday for her first meeting with the judge, who determined the teen will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
The hearing was a brief video conference between the teen suspect at a Weber County juvenile facility and the judge's chambers in Farmington.
Roy Police say Gardner crashed into another vehicle and tried to run away on foot after hitting the victims' car.
The teen was part of an alleged suicide pact involving another unnamed individual. Police said the teen told officers she had stolen her parents' car and planned to pick up that other individual, buy some drugs and then end their lives.
When a Clinton City officer interrupted that plan, the teen said she spotted the victim's car and intentionally rammed it in an attempt to kill herself. FOX 13 News does not generally report on suicide attempts, unless there is a larger impact to the public, as in the case of murder charges following a crash.
There were members of one of the victim's families in court Friday morning, and they were visibly upset and left court without making any comment.
They have said previously that they want the focus to remain on the victims at this time.

Madi Hann, 20, and Tyler Christianson, 19, were in a car early Thursday morning in Roy that was rear ended by an SUV at a high rate of speed, possibly close to 100 miles an hour according to authorities.
There will be a ceremonial Balloon release for Madi and Tyler Friday night at 6 p.m. at Roy North Park.
Fundraising pages have been set up for both Tyler and Madi to help with funeral expenses.
