LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah - The Unified Police Dept. has confirmed the bones a hiker found in Little Cottonwood Canyon last July are those of Corry Ehlers who disappeared in May 2012.
Ehlers, 52, and was last seen in 2012 when he told a friend he was going hiking in the Hell Gate area.
When the bones were found in July 2015, authorities contacted John Ehlers, Corry's father who lives in Idaho.
Officers told John there may be a connection between the remains found and the case of his missing son.
Now a year later, authorities have confirmed the remains belong to Corry.
John told Fox 13 a year ago, “They feel pretty sure that this is Corry. They found his Costco card with his picture on it, and then they found his American Express card."
According to Unified Police, two hikers discovered a skeletal foot inside an old boot they picked up off a trail by Alta.
John said his son, an Alta resident, was an experienced skier and hiker who often ventured out by himself.
According to his family, police found the remains in a steep area, not far from a 600-foot cliff drop.
