SALT LAKE CITY– One man is in custody and South Salt Lake Police are investigating a shooting that happened outside the South Salt Lake Police station Monday evening.

Police said that around 9 p.m. they received a harassment call that escalated to threats with a hatchet.  Following the call, police heard two gunshots outside of the police station.

Officers contained the area around a home 50 yards away. Two roommates had gotten into a verbal altercation when things escalated and gunshots were fired, authorities said.

Shortly after police arrived the suspect came out of the home and surrendered.

“It looks like they shot through a door and it doesn’t look like anyone was hit luckily,” South Salt Lake Police SGT. Darren Carr said.

Detectives are now investigating the incident and police said the house has an extensive history of calls.
