TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- A stolen car crashed through a fence and into a backyard Saturday evening, and police say the occupants were fleeing from another car after a drug deal went badly.

Unified Police Department personnel at the scene of the incident said two groups in separate vehicles met at a location in Taylorsville to complete a drug exchange.

Something went wrong during the deal, and a chase ensued. Police say shots were fired as one vehicle chased the other for about two miles. One vehicle, which was determined to be stolen, crashed through a fence and into the backyard of a home.

"They tried to cut through a yard to get away from this vehicle chasing them, and allegedly shooting at them, and crashed through a fence into a backyard," Lt. Lex Bell of the Unified Police Department said. "Thankfully, didn't hit a house, didn't hit any children. There are kids all over this neighborhood playing."

Police responded to the area of 5600 South and 2200 West after the crash. FOX 13 News first heard report of the incident around 7:45 p.m.

Police stated on Twitter there were reports of shots being fired, but no one was hit by gunfire and police did not find any evidence of the shooting when they responded to the scene.

Bell said the suspects fled on foot after the crash. The second vehicle circled back around and the occupants may have fired another shot at the suspects, who tried to break into an LDS Church meetinghouse in the area.

"...Jumped a fence into a church parking lot, where the suspect vehicle circled back around and maybe shot at them once more," Bell said. "That's when they tried to get into the church, and we got a call about a burglary in progress at the church."

UPD said they have detained one person so far and are looking for other individuals who were involved.

There were no injuries reported.
