TAYLORSVILLE, Utah - A man is in critical to serious condition after running from police and then getting shot during a confrontation.

The West Jordan Police Department has identified the primary suspect involved in the altercation as Andrew Jorge Davison Thomas, 24.

Before the officer-involved shooting, police said the suspect was coming from a previous shooting incident in Murray.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said, "We had a shooting at the Barbary Coast where one individual was hit in the leg."

Witnesses reported to police that one and possibly two men fled the scene at Barbary Coast Saloon in a silver sedan. Police then put out an attempt to locate the vehicle.

"We told them that it probably was occupied by two males and they were obviously, armed and had just been involved in the shooting at the bar and had shot another individual," Lt. Bell said.

According to authorities, the prior incident at the Barbary Coast Saloon led to the officer-involved shooting in Taylorsville when the Thomas jumped from his car and ran from police.

"As our officer was driving, he observed the vehicle that had been broadcast on the radio as involved in that incident and, at some point, there was a confrontation between the two and shots were fired and the suspect was struck," West Jordan Police Lt. Richard Bell said. "We're trying to piece together exactly how many suspects were involved whether there's more than one or not and at this point we're not completely sure."

The officer who shot the suspect is on paid administrative leave pending investigation.
