PINTURA, Utah — Four homes were temporarily evacuated Wednesday after a shed fire spread to nearby vegetation, and officials estimate the fire burning on about 10 acres has damaged or destroyed three outbuildings.
According to a press release from fire officials, crews were dispatched to a shed fire around 5 p.m. in the community of Pintura. The fire spread to nearby vegetation, threatening homes east of I-15.
About eight primary structures and five outbuildings were threatened by the blaze. Four homes were temporarily evacuated, but later Wednesday night residents were back home again. The fire also closed exits 30 and 31 of I-15 for some time, but those exits were later reopened.
Three outbuildings were damaged or destroyed by the fire. Estimates put the size at 10 acres, and authorities say fire crews will be monitoring the fie overnight.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but fire officials remind residents that increased spring moisture means that fuel levels are exceptionally high, and the hot weather causes that vegetation to dry out, increasing the risk of wildfire.
Fire resources from New Harmony Fire, Hurricane Valley Fire, Washington Fire, Utah Forestry Fire and State Lands, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, The Bureau of Land Management, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Department of Transportation assisted. An air control aircraft and two single engine air tankers were among the responding resources.
