SALT LAKE CITY — A Draper man has been arrested, accused of enticing a minor over the Internet.

Paul Peters, 56, was booked Tuesday into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of dealing in materials harmful to a minor and enticing, soliciting or luring a minor by Internet or text. Bail was set at $25,000 cash only.

Utah County Sheriff’s deputies did not immediately return messages seeking details on the arrest, but the Provo Daily Herald reported police claimed he was trying to arrange a sexual encounter with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, but turned out to be an undercover police officer.

Peters is a half-brother of Governor Gary Herbert. The governor’s office on Saturday confirmed the relationship to FOX 13 but said the two were not raised together.

“Regardless of who is being accused, the governor believes these are horrific allegations,” Herbert spokesman Jon Cox said. “His parents were divorced when the governor was very young and the two were raised in different homes.”
