SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A 60-year-old man is safe after getting lost while hiking up Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Rushing water is just one of the obstacles that rescue crews had to face when trying to get the lost man to safety.

Sergeant Paul Barker with Unified Police Department said, “We were able to go across the stream go down the canyon, get the man and bring him across the stream.”

The man called police letting them know he was lost so emergency crews used his GPS signal to find him.

Officials say that the hiker only prepared himself for a short day hike so when he wandered off the trail he soon ran out of supplies.

Luckily the only complaint the stranded hiker has is that he was cold.

The 60-year-old did get checked out by a medical team to make sure he wasn’t suffering for hypothermia.

Police want to remind people to make sure they’re fully prepared even if you’re going out just for the day.
