FORT HOOD, Texas — Three soldiers are dead and six missing after a military vehicle overturned while driving through the rushing waters of a Texas creek, swollen with recent heavy rain.

The fatal accident happened around 11:30 a.m. when the Army vehicle lost traction in an area near Cold Springs and Owl Creek, according to a statement from Fort Hood. Three other soldiers were rescued from the water and rushed to Coryell Memorial Healthcare System in Gatesville, where they’re in stable condition.

Fort Hood is warning nearby residents of hazardous conditions as the rain continues to fall Thursday, and is expected to cause extensive flooding. Texas has been pounded by rain over the past week, and incoming storms could add another 10 inches of rain in parts, according to KXAS.

The names of the dead are being withheld pending family notification.
