NORTHERN UTAH – Strong winds are expected in parts of northern Utah over the next few days after a high wind warning was issued by the National Weather Service.

Areas west of the Salt Lake Valley are expected to see the strongest of the winds.

Strong winds created issues in parts of Davis and Weber counties a few weeks ago, but experts say those folks are likely to be spared a repeat performance this time around.

Meteorologist Mark Struthwolf wants to make sure the people of northern Utah know what's in store for Friday.

"We're expecting winds of about 40 to 50 miles per hour, with gusts of over 60 miles per hour, so, be prepared,” he said.

Struthwolf said the coming weather issues shouldn't be as bad as the winds that tore through parts of northern Utah in early May. But he said it’s very likely the wind will affect those who thought it was finally safe to get their yards ready for summer.

"With people bringing out their lawn furniture, putting things outside, their trampolines, you might want to make sure they're tied down and put them in a secure spot,” Struthwolf said. “Also, if you're traveling and have a lightweight vehicle pulling a trailer, take heed in what's going on here."

Issues are expected to be most prevalent for east-west travel on I-80 and I-84, and there may also be issues along Highway 50 and Route 6 near Delta.

Meanwhile, all of that wind kicking up out west could create other issues for the Wasatch Front.

“Visibility, however, could come down in the afternoon as dust over the west desert gets imported here, so we could see reduction in visibility late in the afternoon, you know, 5-mile visibility,” Struthwolf said.

Struthwolf said folks can expect the strongest winds Friday afternoon and evening.
