OREM, Utah — Orem police officers will don a new piece of equipment as they put on their uniforms every day.

As of Tuesday, about 60 body cameras were issued to all patrol division and some special positions in the department. Chief Gary Giles and his captains are now working on revising the body camera policy, according to a Facebook post on Orem Police Department.

More information on the policy will be released as it’s is formulated.

“This is a positive step for our officers and the citizens we come into contact with,” according to the Facebook post.

The department purchased the Axon cameras on a five-year plan through grants, forfeiture money and the general city fund.
