MILLARD COUNTY, Utah — A man suffered fatal injuries Friday morning after he got caught in a machine that is used to cut large bales of hay into smaller bales.

According to the Millard County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to the McCornick area between Holden and Delta on report a man had been crushed inside a machine.

Responding officers found 64-year-old Melquiadez Marquez of Hinckley dead at the scene.

Marquez was operating a machine that cuts large bales of hay into smaller bales. There do not appear to be any witnesses, so it is unclear how he got into the machine.

A coworker who heard cries for help found Marquez and shut the machine down while others freed the victim from the machine.

Authorities are investigating to determine how the man came to be in the machine and to determine the official cause of death.
