SALT LAKE CITY – Authorities are asking the public for help as the search for a missing Utah Transit Authority employee continues Friday.

Kay Ricks, 62, was reported missing Thursday night.

Ricks performs maintenance on downtown TRAX lines. His family said they spoke with him via phone around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, but a dispatcher who was trying to contact Ricks around 7 p.m. for a scheduled check-in could not get a response.

The man did not return home after his shift ended.

“It would be completely uncharacteristic for Kay to just go off without telling anyone, to take time off, that's not how he is, he would do just the opposite,” family friend Richard Massey said.

Utah Transit Authority police said they searched Thursday night without success. Family members said the man’s cell phone was found on a platform.

Ricks may be in a UTA maintenance truck, and it's possible the man is wearing an orange safety vest.  Anyone who sees Ricks is encouraged to contact UTA Police or their local police agency.
