NORTHERN UTAH — Police are investigating a crash scene Wednesday after several people came across a wrecked vehicle off I-84 and found the driver dead inside.

Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol, said the vehicle was located on I-84 at mile post 85, which is near the divide between Weber and Morgan Counties.

Several people spotted the wrecked vehicle, and they stopped and pulled the driver from the vehicle. The vehicle then caught fire. The bystanders were not injured.

Paramedics believe the man died due to injuries suffered in the crash.

Police believe the Cadillac Escalade was traveling eastbound when it left the inside lane for an unknown reason and collided with the mile post no. 85 structure at, “what appears to be freeway speed.”

The driver and sole occupant was not restrained and was killed on impact. The man in his 60s has not been identified yet, pending notification of his family.
