BEIJING, China – The director of a Chinese animated film is being blasted on social media for reportedly making a copycat version of Pixar’s “Cars”.

Zhuo Jianrong says he will have a sequel out in 2017 for his movie “The Autobots” which was released in 2015.

The cartoon movie has been criticized online for coping Disney’s movie but the filmmaker and production company deny the accusations saying that it was produced independently.

According to Zhuo, Disney sued his company over copyright infringement last year but has refused to reveal further details about the case.

Disney are only willing to say that they have an ongoing legal case against the makers of “The Autobots” and can’t comment anymore, according to CNN.

The movie maker admitted on social media that the criticism has driven him to make the sequel with the hope of being able to distribute it around the world.

The Chinese filmmaker insists he’s never seen any of the movies in the “Cars” franchise before.
