MIDVALE, Utah -- A vigil was held Friday night in honor of a life taken too soon, and friends and family gathered to remember a man dedicated to his community and loved ones.

A few steps away from where he was killed, family and friends celebrated the life of Rion Phillips.

“Rion was a very kindhearted person, had the biggest heart of anyone I had ever known," said Ethan Rose, a friend of the man. "He was so selfless, made sure everyone had come before him."

Police say the 31-year-old was riding his motorcycle when he crashed into a car.Emergency crews tried to save him, but Phillips died on scene.

“Rion was just a loving, caring person," said Derrick Parra. "Whenever anyone needed anything at all, he was the first one there and the last one to leave."

Loved ones gathered to remember Phillips and the light he brought into their lives.

“I hope to find peace with my friend, basically more to base my life off his, like I said, he is a great person, a lot of people loved him, he's definitely a person I look up to," Parra said.

Friends have set up a GoFundMe account for funeral expenses, and they are pleading with drivers to keep their eyes out for motorcyclists, especially with the arrival of warmer weather.
