BINGHAM CANYON, Utah — Workers at Bingham Canyon Mine were evacuated after sensors detected a small amount of movement there Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for Kennecott Utah Copper said they don’t expect a slide to occur, and workers were evacuated as a precaution.

The movement was detected in the southwest area of the mine. The area will be monitored carefully until it is deemed safe for workers to return.

A massive landslide occurred at the mine nearly three years ago, on April 10, 2013. The landslide is considered one of the largest human-caused landslides in history. Approximately 150 million tons of debris spilled into the mine.
