SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Utah Highway Patrol troopers are looking for a two men who were in a green SUV after one of the men allegedly fired a shot at a semi-trailer as the vehicles were traveling on I-15 in Salt Lake County Saturday.

According to UHP Sergeant David Moreno, a man driving a semi-trailer was traveling southbound when a green Ford SUV pulled up alongside the vehicle and one of the occupants fired a shot at the truck.

“We believe it was a rifle shot that was fired into the commercial vehicle,” Sgt. Moreno said.

The shooting occurred around noon as the man in the semi-trailer was hauling a load of cars southbound from Idaho.

"He said he saw two Polynesian males inside the green SUV, and as he was coming up to them he started speeding up, and the commercial vehicle sped up as well, trying to get ahead so the people inside the green SUV wouldn't take another shot at him," said Sgt. Moreno said.

The suspect SUV exited the freeway at 7200 South and went westbound on 7200 South.

The driver of the semi-trailer exited at 9000 South, where he met up with UHP troopers. Police located a bullet lodged in the side of the driver’s door.

Investigators are now trying to figure out why someone fired the shot, and who’s responsible.

“We do think that this person from Idaho does know people here in Utah,” Sgt. Moreno said, of the truck driver. “We’re trying to connect the dots right now.”

Police said the two suspects have so far only been described as Polynesian males in a green SUV. Police initially stated there were three suspects but later stated there were only two.
