MERIDIAN, IDAHO — Racist symbols and anti-religious messages were found spray painted at the construction site for a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Meridian, Idaho.

According to Ada County Sheriff’s Office blog, someone broke into the area between 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and used black spray paint to graffiti the walls. The vandals also emptied tubes of construction adhesive on the walls and floors of building, causing at least $500 worth of damage.

There have also been reports of theft since last year. Stolen items include a welding unit and industrial saw.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Justin Elliot with Ada County Sheriff’s Office at 208-577-3702.

Ground was broken for the temple in August 2014.

Temple services bind families together forever, teach the purpose of life and explain God’s plan of salvation. Temple attendance emphasizes personal spiritual growth and strengthens Latter-day Saints’ commitment to follow the example of Jesus Christ.
