Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra perform Handel’s ‘Messiah’

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra joined forces this week for a special performance of Handel’s Oratorio “Messiah” in honor of Easter.

A soft build up in the orchestra pit starts off the night, and, one by one, voices begin to join in.

“It’s really the first time in a long time that the choir has actually done the whole ‘Messiah,’” Provo resident Jeremy Jensen said.

Mack Wilberg, Music Director for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, said he examined every single note of the vocal and instrumental parts to come up with a completely new edition for the 360-voice choir.

Not all Utahns drive to Salt Lake City to see the choir perform weekly, but many made the trip just to experience “Messiah” live.

“I love the choir, I love the ‘Messiah’, so it was perfect,” Farmington resident Nikki Vanoverbeck said.

If you missed the live performances, you can view the complete show by clicking here. According to the website, that video will remain available until 11:59 p.m. on April 4.
