SALT LAKE CITY — Several bus routes are scheduled to change next month as Utah Transit Authority moves forward with its transportation improvements plan with Proposition One funding.

Ten of 17 Utah counties voted in favor of Prop One last November, which would help UTA expand its services. Salt Lake and Utah Counties did not pass the proposition.

Starting April 10, UTA’s changes will go into effect.

“In Salt Lake County, select bus routes will be adjusted to improve reliability, extend service hours and add trip frequency,” a UTA release states. “In Utah County, some low-ridership routes will be discontinued and those resources will be redirected to improve higher-ridership routes.”

Buses on that route will run every 30 minutes on Sundays, starting at approximately 7 a.m. and ending at 9:30 p.m. Routes 603 and 612 will run from 5 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, improving service to Weber State University, medical facilities and shopping centers. Route 640 will run from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. every 30 minutes on weekdays, allowing riders more convenient access to the Weber State University Davis Campus, the Freeport Center, Layton Hills Mall and other landmarks.

Routes 836 and 842 will be discontinued due to low ridership, and resources from those routes will be used to improve routes 821, 833, 834 and 850. Route 821 will have four new weekday trips to extend 30-minute frequency and evening service, providing more convenient transportation to the southern part of the county. Route 850 will also have four new weekday trips to extend 15-minute frequency. Five weekday trips will be added to route 833 and 10 weekday trips will be added to route 834 to improve weekday frequency and provide enhanced service to Provo business centers and the Provo Municipal Airport.
