Skier dies after crashing into rock at Snowbird

SALT LAKE CITY — A man died after losing control and hitting a rock while skiing at Snowbird Sunday.

According to a press release from Snowbird, the 55-year-old male died while skiing in-bounds near the bottom of Chip’s Run. The crash occurred around 3 p.m., according to Unified Police Department personnel, who said the man impacted a rock after going airborne.

Snowbird states a friend who was with the man alerted the ski patrol to the crash, and ski patrol personnel responded and immediately provided first aid.

The skier died due to his injuries. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.

The statement concludes with, “Snowbird would like to extend its deepest condolences to the skier’s family and friends.”
