Although it may seem obvious what warrants a trip to the ER, some signs and symptoms are often ignored when they shouldn’t be, which can turn into a bigger health emergency as you wait.

Five Symptoms That Shouldn’t be Ignored
  • Chest Pain: Any pain in chest accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating, pain that radiates to neck, jaw, or arms, or if you have family history of heart attacks
  • Abdominal Pain: Any intense localized abdominal pain, or abdominal pain accompanied by repeated episodes of vomiting or blood in stool
  • Difficulty Breathing: Any shortness of breath or trouble breathing should be taken seriously
  • Bumps and Falls: Falls that cause loss of consciousness or severe injury to a muscle, tendon, or bone should be taken seriously, especially if you suspect a fracture in a bone
  • Fever: Any fever accompanied by difficulty breathing, localized pain, vomiting, severe headache, or confusion could be serious
When illness or injuries occur, common sense goes a long way, but when you’re in doubt, it is better to be safe than sorry. Learning more about medical emergencies is a great way to help you and your family stay safe.
